Why you should secure your accommodation sooner, rather than later

Make sure you don’t get FOMO this year.

In 2021, the UK accepted more people to university than ever. Over 430,000 budding students from Britain and beyond had their places confirmed – a 5% rise on last year.

With this in mind, it comes as no surprise that with an increasing number of students at university, an increasing scarcity of accommodation follows.

According to Save The Student, a third of all undergraduates across the UK start their search for a place to live before Christmas, and accommodation with added perks like on-site gyms and in-house events are more popular than ever.

Competing for a place to live when you’re studying isn’t fun, whether you’re looking for a studio flat or shared house.  So much time is wasted going to viewings for the room to be filled an hour later, and some universities are even housing their students outside of the city due to a lack of beds.

Every year we quickly sell out and see our studios get snapped up in record time, especially in cities like Bristol, Edinburgh, Manchester and Southampton, where competition for the best rooms is fierce.

Students spend, on average, 60% of their time at university inside their accommodation and one of the most common reasons for first years dropping out is due to their accommodation choices. So this means that where you decide to live can really affect how well you thrive at uni.

Our advice: Don’t procrastinate the task of securing your room. With a third of students reporting that their housemates leave food out to rot, are you really willing to risk waiting until last minute?

The perfect accommodation means having a perfect environment for both work and play. At Vita Student, it’s easy to be able to knuckle down to study in your space, as well as get out and socialise with your community to blow off steam.

A report by Octopus  found that those living in private, purpose-built accommodation like Vita Student are 26% more likely to achieve high grades in their first year than those living in halls of residence. They’re also more likely to feel in better physical and mental health – which could be thanks to free gym facilities and social events inside the building.

Despite being just three months into the 21/22 academic year, we’ve hosted over 56 events in all 20 of our buildings, partnered with over 30 exclusive brands, and welcomed 7000 residents into the Vita Student community.

Next year you can expect all of the above, and some.

People say that opportunities rely on being in the right place, at the right time. And while there’s no better place to start your future than at Vita Student, there’s not much time to secure your spot.
