Around 83% of students will catch a cold during their time at university.
That’s a lot of used tissues.
As much as we’d love to wave a magic wand and make freshers’ flu disappear, the truth is…
Most students will get sick during their time at university. Unfortunately, it’s just what happens.
If you’re a soon-to-be student reading this, please don’t be alarmed. It’s completely normal to feel a little under the weather now and then, especially during colder months and times of high stress.
If anything, exposure to common viruses can help your immune system build protection against similar infections in the future.
Here at Vita Student, we sadly can’t prevent what’s inevitable. But we can be here for your health by offering the right support when you need it. And that’s exactly what we’re doing.
Since 2025, we’ve partnered with Europe’s leading digital healthcare provider, HealthHero,.
Here’s everything you need to know about HealthHero, and how you’ll benefit from this service as a Vita Student resident in the UK.

What is HealthHero?
HealthHero is the largest digital healthcare provider in Europe. With a network of over 3,000 fully qualified clinicians, HealthHero connects you with a professional to match your specific medical needs.
Rated ‘Outstanding’ by the CQC and authorised by the HPRA, HealthHero meets the high standards expected of leading healthcare providers in Europe.
Their mission?
To provide simplified, hassle-free healthcare that makes day-to-day life easier. This holistic approach to out-of-hospital care includes everything from general practice and mental health, to extended primary care, long-term conditions, and more.
Why have we partnered with HealthHero?
We know fully well how confusing the UK healthcare system can be, especially for international students.
The NHS (National Health Service) is the UK’s publicly funded healthcare system, providing everyone in the UK with healthcare support that’s free at the point of care.
If you’re an international student studying in the UK for more than six months, you’ll be eligible to access NHS services. As part of your UK student visa application, you’ll usually pay the Immigration Health Surcharge, giving you access to NHS services throughout your time in the UK. Because of this, there’s no requirement for international students to take private health insurance.
While there’s so much to love about the NHS, the system does have its downfalls.
Wait times can be long. GP appointments are sometimes hard to get. For first-time UK students, navigating this complicated system can feel like an overwhelming feat.
That’s exactly why we’ve partnered with HealthHero. In fact, we’re the only student accommodation provider who offers healthcare support that goes way beyond simply pointing students towards their nearby GP.
Students deserve free, expert and easily accessible healthcare that keeps their studies on track and their wellbeing intact.
