of York.

York St John University is one of six universities in the UK to be awarded official “Sanctuary” status. The award was given in 2018, in recognition of their work to welcome asylum seekers and to provide a safe, inclusive place of study.

    There are plenty of things to do in York all throughout the year. A city with thousands of years of history, York has more attractions per square mile than any other city in the UK. One of the best things to do in York is to go on a guided tour, where you can unfold the city’s story with a group of friends. At night, you can even go on a ghost tour to uncover the spookier side of York. York also has lots of pubs, restaurants and shops to discover – go to the Shambles and visit one of the oldest shopping destinations in Britain, or visit the more modern spot at Coppergate Shopping Centre.

    It takes just over two hours to get from York to London by train.

    If you want to find out about York’s history – there are a number of museums in the city to start your learning journey. The first place to start would be York Castle Museum, which showcases York’s past through immersive exhibitions and galleries. You can also buy a Visit York Pass, which allows you access to most of the city’s main attractions like York Minister, The York Dungeon and the JORVIK Viking Centre.
