    Shop at the famous Bullring district, become a culture vulture in Digbeth, or eat your heart out in the endless choice of restaurants. Birmingham is the youngest city in Europe, so as a student, you’ll never be short of things to do.

    Most famously seen in Peaky Blinders, Birmingham has a huge industrial history, which is still visible through its architecture. However, these days Birmingham steams ahead into the modern day. The city is now the UK’s start-up capital, and known as a tech hub, proving that Birmingham’s unique culture is constantly evolving.

    Birmingham is known for its buzzing city feel – and with that you’ll find an amazing music scene. Rock n’ Roll has always been a part of Birmingham’s identity, especially since it was the birthplace of Ozzy Osbourne. However, underground music has made a resurgence in Birmingham, and proves a hit with many of the students that live here.

    Birmingham is also famous for sport – home to Aston Villa football team, one of the founding clubs of the Premier League.

    Birmingham is one of the most well-connected cities in the UK. From Grand Central Station, you can get to either London or Manchester within 90 minutes.

    Birmingham is one of the most diverse cities in the country, therefore there’s plenty going on. Cultural events are celebrated throughout the year through events in the city like a Chinese New Year parade and Vaisakhi celebrations. However, the city also holds events like SHOUT, a festival of LGBT arts and culture, as well as film, music and literature festivals.

    Birmingham is home to 4 Michellin star restaurants, and has an incredible food scene. We recommend Simpsons, which is less than 10 minutes from Vita Student, as well as Lucky Duck, a Chinese street food venue in the heart of the Jewellery Quarter. If you’re looking for a night out, take a group of friends to Flight Club or experience something otherworldly at Jekyll and Hyde.
