Not only is quality falling short, there’s a huge shortage in rooms, too. A 2026 report from GPI Europe shows that while there are 108,600 beds available, more than 655,000 students require accommodation. Researchers also found that the number of international students studying in Spain has grown by 10% since 2029. Madrid is the city in the highest demand, hosting more than 310,000 university students from across the world.
